At Kalgoorlie Primary School, our values of Respect, Inclusion, Mindfulness, and Determination shape our school culture and guide our students in their learning and personal growth.

We foster Respect by encouraging kindness, empathy, and positive relationships among students, staff, and the wider community. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that every individual feels valued and supported in a welcoming school environment.

Through Mindfulness, we promote self-awareness, emotional well-being, and a thoughtful approach to learning and interactions. We also instil Determination, empowering students to face challenges with resilience, embrace opportunities, and strive for success.

Together, these values create a strong foundation for lifelong learning and positive contributions beyond the classroom.

Kalgoorlie Primary School implements a whole-school teaching approach and shared, sequenced curriculum materials to drive consistent, high-quality teaching across the school. Curriculum, instruction, and classroom assessments are aligned to promote student learning and ensure our students are ‘downhill skiers’ and not ‘slalom skiers’ with obstacles to navigate. We do this:

  • To ensure a shared understanding between school leaders and teachers of what constitutes good teaching
  • To take the lottery out of learning and guarantee all students receive common, high-quality teaching that supports them to build knowledge and skills through their school years
  • To boost student learning by providing students with a sequenced knowledge rich curriculum that presents new material incrementally, connecting new content with previous content and giving students ample opportunity to practise
  • Because surveys by the Grattan Institute in 2021 and 2022 found 90% of teachers claimed they did not have enough time to plan effectively
  • To allow teachers to spend more time focusing on planning how they will teach effectively and how they will cater to individual needs
  • Because, in comparison to many countries, the Australian and Western Australian Curriculums are ambiguous and leave it up to individual schools to decide how to translate it into teaching and teachers are not curriculum designers.
