At Kalgoorlie Primary School, our Health curriculum is designed to support the holistic development of our students. We focus on teaching the Zones of Regulation, Behaviour as a Curriculum, and Protective Behaviours, ensuring that students are equipped with essential life skills. Zones of Regulation helps students understand and manage their emotions by categorising them into different zones, empowering them to recognise their feelings and use strategies to regulate their emotions effectively. Behaviour as a Curriculum refers to our Behaviour Matrix, which outlines expected behaviours through the KPS values of Respect, Inclusion, Mindfulness, and Determination, integrating social and emotional learning into everyday activities to create a supportive and respectful school environment. Protective Behaviours educates students about personal safety, promoting resilience and confidence to recognise and respond to unsafe situations.
Additionally, we implement the Friendly Schools program, an evidence-based whole-school approach to social and emotional wellbeing and bullying prevention. This program helps build critical social and emotional skills, create positive, safe, and supportive learning environments, and significantly reduce bullying. With over 20 years of extensive research in Australian schools, Friendly Schools is recognised nationally and internationally as one of the most comprehensive and thoroughly tested approaches to enhance student wellbeing. Through these comprehensive programs, Kalgoorlie Primary School is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all students.
