As Term 4 flies by, it is timely to write to you and update you with what is happening at your school. Classroom requests have been finalised and I am pleased to say that most requests were already accounted for by staff, and most requests have been able to be serviced. Class lists for 2025 will be communicated to you around the last week of school.

In 2025, we will be teaching Wangkatja for our language program in Years 3 - 6. Delivered by Mr Troy Rundle, who has recently completed his Aboriginal languages teacher training, this program will provide many benefits to all of our students and the wider community. Aboriginal language programs build respect for Aboriginal histories, cultures and people amongst students and their families. Schools play a vital role in language learning and supporting community language revitalisation. Wangkatja has been taught in many schools in our region and Kalgoorlie Primary School is one of many schools that have embarked upon training an Aboriginal languages teacher. We look forward to watching Mr Rundle continue to develop his positive relationships with our Year 3 – 6 students.

Parking is a consistent issue at the school. The cost to replace the bitumen on the back car park is well beyond what the school can afford. It is Department of Education land, and the responsibility rests with the Department of Education to replace it. This will happen, but not in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, we have secured access to 2 Cassidy Street, which you are welcome to use as overflow parking. This is a temporary measure, but hopefully one that will provide relief. Please be reminded to avoid parking up on the verges. It presents a safety issue, and we cannot guarantee that you won’t be fined by the Rangers.

Our school has been chosen by the Department of Education to be a part of the latest wave for the ‘Kaarditjin Solution’. The system that the school uses for attendance is extremely antiquated and is being replaced by ‘Compass’. There will be positive implications for our text messaging service, so please don’t be surprised if you get texts from a different number within the next week or so.

Our P&C continues to go from strength to strength. Thank you to those parents who are part of this exciting venture. It has been great to have efficient and effective service running out of the canteen each Friday. Keep your eye out for our raffle, with proceeds contributing to the funds that have already been raised for the Nature Playground planned for the North West corner of the school.

We have an assembly this Friday. As we move further into the warmer season, just a reminder that we will continue to hold assemblies in the afternoon if the temperature forecast at 2pm is below 39 degrees. At our last assembly we used mitigation strategies such as extra shade, the giant ceiling fans and a quicker assembly to very positive effect.
