Curriculum - Literacy at KPS

Literacy

At Kalgoorlie Primary School, we are committed to providing a quality literacy program for all students and adopt a whole school approach to the teaching of English from Kindergarten to year six. All teaching is informed by the Principles of Teaching and Learning, and content is consistent with the Australian Curriculum.

Teachers at KPS plan collaboratively to meet the needs of all students, providing specific programs of support and extension for students requiring intervention. We have a strong emphasis on Reading and Writing, incorporating explicit instructional strategies into our programs. Students are encouraged to read at home with incentives provided through the ‘100 000 Nights of Reading’ program.

Students’ progress and achievement is closely monitored through the application of our whole school assessment schedule and subsequent analysis of results.

For further information about the English plan in your child’s classroom, please make an appointment to meet with the classroom teacher.
